Codemi launches cloud-based learning management programme

INDONESIA-based learning management system startup Codemi (Collaboration Academy Indonesia) launches Codemi Learning, a cloud-based learning management programme that enables companies to develop a Corporate Digital Academy to train new employees and partners.

Codemi Learning provides solutions for companies to manage training programmes and achieve measureable results. The programmes are conducted online.

Codemi helps companies overcome problems in conducting training programmes, such as limited trainers and space that hinders the delivery of training materials, difficulties in measuring the development, and learning outcomes of each employee and the high distribution of training materials especially for companies with branches in various locations.

“In the fast-paced digital era, companies often find it difficult to manage training programmes for new employees, although imperative that they conduct such programmes to improve the company's business performance,” said Codemi co-founder and chief executive officer Zaki Falimbany (pic).

Through Codemi, participants will be able to take classes, exams, and discuss their classes through the platform. Administrators are able to manage the programme and content as well as check on reports and analyse them.

Zaki says that he only targets big companies with many mobile workers and branches in various locations.

“Big companies need more integration in their system and have enough of a budget. We have clients from various industries including financial services, automotive, offline and online transportation, and e-commerce (for merchants).”

Codemi charges a company based on subscriptions and the number of active users monthly. The content will be provided by the company and Codemi will provide basic training.

“We are planning to open the learning programme to local SMEs too in the next six months.”

In 2017, Codemi recorded more than a million registered users with 1.5 million completed training programmes. The users completed more than five million exam questions with a total learning time of 375 hours in a year. He didn’t disclose the number of clients.

B2B business model

Launched in 2013, Codemi was initially focussed on the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) concept and sold content only.

“At that time, we could not sell our products because nobody wanted to sell it. In 2015, a friend of mine borrowed our software for his company’s training programme and since then we pivoted into learning management systems.”

Zaki says that his company is profitable now but didn’t reveal any numbers. “We are a B2B business model, so we have to monetise and be profitable from the beginning.”

When asked about investment sources, Zaki says, “We sell ideas to companies and we receive investments from them by developing the ideas into software and selling it back to other companies.”

Zaki says that convincing clients to use the cloud-based software has been challenging. “Some companies were doubtful when they knew that we used the cloud as our server. But now, most of them request to input data to the cloud.”
